the brief - the MB Ireland plant was failing to achieve a consistently high customer satisfaction rating which was understood to result from a lack of synchronisation between the production programme (received from the London Central Planning Office) and the various line planning and loading tools on-site in Ireland. |
the approach - working with the Materials Manager and the Master Planner we reviewed, analysed and documented all the current planning systems and processes with particular emphasis on identifying conflicts between the scheduling of upstream operations and final assembly operations (related to the market requirements monitoring system). Peripheral issues such as staffing levels and the general organisation structure were considered as well as lead time reduction and JIT planning concepts contributed to the design process. A cohesive and co-ordinate system was developed which provided the essential synchronisation between the disparate planning and scheduling systems, providing a foolproof closed loop system. |

the result - the consistency and visibility of the revised suite of planning and scheduling tools resulted in considerable improvement in the customer satisfaction levels. |
